What Areas of the Body Does Ultherapy Work Best?

January 24, 2019

The human skin is one of the most complex organs of the body. It has an underlying mechanism that undergoes changes every day. The skin is also one of the largest and also the most neglected organ of the body.

Due to the natural process of aging and effects of gravity, the skin becomes thinner, weaker, and sags downwards. The displacement of the facial skin is an obvious sign of aging. When the skin sags downwards with visibly loose skin hanging from the faces, people panic and look for ways to restore their appearance.

One of the most obvious difference between a surgical facelift and a non-surgical one is that the former costs more and have more risks and downtime. If these side effects bother you, you can consider non-surgical treatment. Ultherapy is an FDA-approved treatment that is widely performed by many aesthetic doctors in Singapore. Unlike conventional surgical facelift where it involves making corrections by cutting and stitching the skin, Ultherapy does not need to make any incision to the skin.

The doctor performs the treatment with a handheld device that emits High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) to the deep layers of the skin.

How does Ultherapy work?

Unlike other skin lifting treatments such as thread lift, dermal fillers, and Dysport Dermalift, Ultherapy does not break the skin surface and does not require any injections. It uses HIFU to deliver consistent amount of ultrasound energy at controlled depths, at a consistent temperature.

The handheld device delivers pockets of HIFU into the skin, heating the tissue to 60-70°C. By doing so, it achieves 2 beneficial outcomes:

TISSUE CONTRACTION The heat administered causes immediate skin contraction. This causes the deeper layers of the skin to contract and become firmer.
NEW COLLAGEN PRODUCTION Collagen stimulation occurs in the skin when the skin is heated to 60-70°C. When more collagen is produced over the next few months, the skin becomes tighter and more lifted.
What can Ultherapy treat?

HIFU
Ultherapy is a remarkable non-surgical, non-invasive way to lift saggy skin. It is a very safe and convenient treatment to make subtle improvement in the appearance of the skin.

Ultherapy works best on people who have mild or moderately saggy skin. It is the only FDA-approved procedure that lifts and tightens the neck, chin and brow, and improves lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.

Ultherapy is also an effective treatment to lift and tighten saggy skin due to environmental damage, pregnancy, or rapid weight loss. The procedure targets the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System, or SMAS, to produce skin contraction for long-term tightening effect of the arms, abdomen, thighs, and buttock area, in a one-time treatment.

Side effects of Ultherapy

Ultherapy does not have any major side effects. It does not harm the skin. In fact, Ultherapy can be done during lunch time and you can go back to work immediately after the treatment.

Minor side effects you may experience include skin redness and mild swelling after the treatment. However, these inconvenient side effects should last for less than a day.

Although Ultherapy is suitable for most people, it is best to have a consultation with your doctor to determine if it is suitable for you.

Ultherapy and other non-surgical skin lifting treatments are available in Radium Medical Aesthetics. Make an appointment with the doctor to have a confidential discussion on how it can help you achieve younger-looking skin.
